Arsenal winger Alex Iwobi has made encouraging progress that
has attracted the praise of academy manager Andries Jonker.
The 19-year-old has already managed to make a positive
impact in the first team for the Gunners with impressive performances in the FA
Cup and the Champions League.
Jonker said the Nigeria international’s progress has left
him very pleased.
"Every now and then we have had players who have
attracted attention but I think the one who has succeeded most is Alex Iwobi,
who is with the first team now,” he said on the club’s official website.
"Alex is incredibly motivated, dedicated, willing to
work and open to listening. He is always trying to improve himself.
"That makes him a perfect player because, with the
talent he has already, he can continue to develop.
That's what's happening at
the moment. He played at home against Bayern Munich, made two very nice goals
and was great for the team.
"Since then we haven't seen him because he's with the
first team and that's what it's all about."
After playing youth football for England, Iwobi made his
senior debut for Nigeria on 8 October 2015, replacing Ahmed Musa in the 57th
minute of a 2–0 friendly defeat to DR Congo in Visé, Belgium.
